STATUS ELECTOR
In "Status Elector," the viewer is thrust into a visceral reflection of society's ceaseless struggle, a raw and urgent commentary on the intricate layers and relentless clashes that define our existence. With a yin and yang sensibility, the work juxtaposes discarded textiles symbolizing the marginalized social classes against the polished fabrics of blazers, emblematic of the neoliberal elite. This bizarre union begets a monstrous being, one locked in perpetual internal strife. It's an invitation, an immersive plunge into the core of this societal battle, where you, the spectator, must choose your side, donning the skin of one or the other. But as you interact, you'll soon feel the emotional burden that festers within this fractured and distorted society. Status Elector, a tour de force of artistry, compels us to grapple with the prejudice that gnaws at the heart of our shared existence, offering a disquieting but essential reflection on otherness and empathy.
A textile sculpture is born through upcycling: a response to an increasingly divided and strained society that focuses on highlighting differences, rather than on unified understanding and strength. The work is composed of textile pieces that have the ability to assemble and connect, to create a single textile sculpture that unites and intertwines what is normally separated. The work is a superskin that houses a five-headed, ten-legged and two-armed superbeing, brought to life by five intertwined bodies. The superbeing is created through the embrace of the performers, an entity that appears before us as a symbol of union, understanding, compassion, humanity, balance and harmony, as a reminder that we all form and depend on the same world; under the same sky, the same shelter, or the same embrace.
