"DESGARRO" is a profound performance unveiled during ARCO, the esteemed art fair, commemorating International Women's Day on March 8th. It serves as a potent reminder of the pervasive violence women endure in societies marred by sexism and rape culture. Through a captivating presentation of shirt collars in hues of pink and purple, intricately woven to resemble bruised skin, the artwork honors victims while shedding light on their often dismissed suffering. This evocative portrayal not only captures the external scars but also delves into the internal turmoil caused by sexism, symbolizing the emotional wounds carried by women. During the activation, two performers embody 'plañideras' - mourners, resurrecting an ancient profession to externalize the hidden anguish suffered by women. Their poignant portrayal amplifies the impact of "DESGARRO" as a forceful condemnation of systemic violence, offering a voice to the silenced and igniting awareness of the collective pain experienced by countless individuals.
