TOUCH AGAIN
PERFORMANCE AT COLECCIÓN SOLO
In "Touch Again," artist Alex Hug breathes life into four textile sculptures, an integral part of the "Certeza _ La Introducción" series. This performance serves as a poignant call to rediscover the importance of physical touch in an age dominated by digital communication. Hug's ingenious "Hug Stations," soft panels adorned with numerous arms, come to life through the artistry of performers who extend their embrace to the audience. Through a vivid interplay of color, texture, and spoken word, these sculptures guide viewers on an emotional odyssey, from the depths of rage to the heights of relief, with stops along the way at fear and sadness.
Beyond the immediate context of lockdowns, Hug's art speaks to a pressing modern concern: the longing for tactile connection in a world marked by touch starvation. Grounded in sustainability, her sculptures are composed of upcycled clothing, serving as repositories of memories and emotions. Each "Hug Station" weaves a unique narrative through its choice of materials and colors, embodying a spectrum of feelings from the fiery fervor of rage in "It's OK to Feel Red" (Hug Station #4) to the paralyzing grip of fear in "The Trap of Black" (Hug Station #5), the gentle embrace of sadness in "I Need a Hug When I Feel Blue" (Hug Station #3), and the triumphant spirit of overcoming adversity in "Hope in Pink is Contagious" (Hug Station #2). In this sensory journey, the spoken word adds an ethereal layer, with repeated phrases forming a haunting soundtrack, reassuring viewers with the whispered promise that "Everything's going to be okay," offering solace and rekindling our yearning for human connection.
